About Us
Our Story
The establishment of Gramin Mahila Swasthya Chetna Evam Swarogar Vikas Samiti begins in the valley of red rice Purola, Uttarkashi. Purola Valley is a town located on the route to the famous Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun treks. The valley is rich in natural resources, fruit plant and vegetation but impacted by disasters to great extent thus leaving people with no option but to left their agricultural field and migrate, with this persistent problem of disasters, lack of awarness, lack of proper education , Krishna Bijalwan, a determined rural woman from a humble farming family decided to found soultions to all these problems.
It was during the end of monsoon like many others in her village, Krishna witnessed the heartbreaking waste of fresh produce—tomatoes and apples thrown away by helpless farmers when landslides blocked the roads to city markets. The pain of seeing months of hard work rot away, simply because of poor connectivity and lack of storage or processing facilities, left a deep impact on her.
Krishna, a member of a local Self-Help Group (SHG), realized that this was not just a seasonal issue but a systemic problem affecting the livelihoods, food security, and dignity of farmers—especially women who bore the brunt of the economic burden silently. Instead of giving in to despair, she chose action.
With a vision to build local solutions for local problems, Krishna took the bold step of founding Gramin Mahila Swasthya Chetna—an organization rooted in community, resilience, and innovation. Her goal was clear: to empower rural women and youth by promoting sustainable livelihoods, better health awareness, and practical solutions like local processing units, value addition training, and market linkages.
What started as a small initiative with a handful of women has today transformed hundreds of lives. Through her leadership, Gramin Mahila Swasthya Chetna has become a beacon of hope in the region—creating economic opportunities, building resilience to climate and market shocks, and enabling rural communities to thrive on their own terms. Today Krishna has team of like minded youth , visionary development professional who are taking her initiative further.
At the heart of this journey lies the silent strength of a women who despite having various challeges just took a step ahead and tried to bring a change even if it is small.
